About Priscilla
Long before Priscilla R. Tyson became an
upstanding and productive member of Columbus City Council, she was
dedicated to uplifting and strengthening her community. A natural
leader with a proven ability to relate to and connect with diverse
audiences, Councilmember Tyson has always strived to bring her
passion and talents to bear in creating and leading a stronger
Columbus.
A
graduate of Franklin University, with a degree in Business
Administration, Priscilla Tyson has over 30 years of leadership
experience. Following her time as the Vice President of Community
Development at National City Bank and later at Grant/Riverside
Methodist Hospital, Councilmember Tyson brought her passion for
young people, community building, and enhancing quality of life for
Columbus residents to bear as the founding Executive Director of
City Year Columbus, and as a National Regional Director for City
Year, providing leadership and guidance to six City Year sites
throughout the Midwest. Through her dedication and initiative,
Councilmember Tyson has inspired young people in Columbus and
elsewhere to invest in their communities, and create a better
quality of life for their families, neighbors, and themselves.
Councilmember Tyson’s dedication to
her community has not been limited to her time with City Year. In
addition to her service as the Columbus program’s founder,
Councilmember Tyson served as the President of the City of Columbus’
Civil Service Commission, where she worked tirelessly to inspire and
maintain high levels of excellence in the delivery of city services,
and promote efficiency and consistency in the Commission’s policies.
Councilmember Tyson has also served on the board of the Greater
Columbus Arts Council, and the Greater Columbus Creative Cultural
Commission, a group of community leaders dedicated to supporting and
growing the arts locally. Councilmember Tyson has also remained
actively involved as a member of the Central Ohio Links society, an
African American women’s organization dedicated to improving
healthcare, education, and community enrichment and as the President
of Star Arts Limited, a professional arts gallery that promotes
experienced and emerging independent artists and strives to educate
and uplift the Columbus community.
In 2007, Councilmember Tyson was
elected to the Columbus City Council where she has brought her
passion for her community and her mastery of consensus building,
critical thinking, problem-solving, and planning to the Council.
During her time as a member of Columbus City Council, Councilmember
Tyson has served on multiple committees including the Work Force
Development, Development, Health, Housing and Human Services, and
Judiciary and Court Administration. In addition to her service as a
committee member, Councilwoman Tyson has brought strong leadership
and guidance to the Council, serving as Chair of both the Zoning
Committee and the Recreation and Parks Committee. Since her
election, Councilmember Tyson has wholeheartedly committed herself
to her duties on the City Council, and her experience, leadership,
and vision as a councilmember have served the residents and families
of Columbus admirably and with tremendous results.
